As JD's character background was fleshed out over the next two episodes, it
became obvious that she should have known the Carmín who
was shot. But I didn't recognize that at the time. We eventually learn that his
name is Manuel, but because of this lapse, his name and the fact that JD knows
him just seem to come out of the blue. Because those facts really did
come out of the blue.
I'm hoping that you won't see very much of those kinds
of revisionism or continuity failures in the future. The characters are now
well-established, and like Joss Whedon, I try to be very careful to honor each
character's history, be they Cast Members or Guest Stars.
