This is from real life. An exhibit of replicas of artifacts from King Tut's tomb was on display at the Lehigh Valley Mall during this time. Some of the items were rather hokey, as you'd expect for an exhibit that travels the shopping-mall circuit. Others were kind of intriguing, like this one:

which looked to me like an ancient Egyptian spatula. "How would Pharaoh like his pancakes today?"

Here's a little more info on the display, but since the exhibit has already moved on and the local paper's web-based search engine rarely works, a good write-up is hard to find.
