The tension in this scene was palpable -- which is exactly what I had hoped for. Doug had not behaved this respectfully in any previous scene in the Series.
There is a tendency among many players of role-playing games to assume that combat is inevitable when they meet an adversary. That presumption further added to the tension.
Fortunately, both players recalled that in the previous shootings, non-Latinos were targeted only if they offered some form of provocation. I was alert for anything that I could interpret as provocation. But the characters were the embodiment of cooperation and they succeeded admirably in avoiding conflict. They also sweated in the process, which means I succeeded as well.
Everybody was a winner!
