Desi: Oh, Mr. Schuler! This must be the wrong room. I'm sorry.
Mr. Schuler: Um,... Desi? Desi Stark, right?
Desi: Yeah, I... I didn't think you did the interviews yourself.
Mr. Schuler: Ah, that's both the advantage and the burden of a small company. Please come in. It's a great pleasure to see you again.
Desi: Thank you.
Mr. Schuler: I was very pleasantly surprised to see that you had applied for a job here.
Desi: I think that I could do well for Aegis over the summer.
Mr. Schuler: I've been looking over your school record and over the reports from our security clearance, and, uh, I'm inclined to agree with you. I think that you would do a very good job at Aegis. In fact, I think that we would be lucky to have you.
Desi: I'm very glad to hear that, Mr. Schuler.
Mr. Schuler: Yes. I'll tell you, I've been doing this for a while. And it's not often that I get to come across someone your age, with as little world experience as you have, and yet all the responsibility of an adult. (He waves his hand over several open manila folders -- Desi's files.) I can tell by looking over this material that you are a very responsible young lady. And we are a very responsible company. There are companies that entrust to us the job of keeping them safe. That's not something I can pass off to just anyone. So I'm delighted to see someone who's not going to have to be constantly impressed with the importance of what it is we do.
Desi: Oh, I understand that.
Mr. Schuler: I'm quite excited about this prospect! (pause) Tell me, though: Why Aegis? Why are you applying to work here?
Desi: I... like keeping people safe.
Mr. Schuler: I see. I notice you also do volunteer work at the Phoebe Home.
Desi: Yes.
Mr. Schuler: That is a very noble thing. [snip] So it's helping people that you like. Well, you don't need me to tell you that Allentown certainly needs more of that.
Desi: Yes. If people don't help people, who will?
Mr. Schuler: (pause) Right. Right! That's exactly my philosophy. When I first came to Allentown, it was a beautiful place to live. That was quite a while ago. Lately, I don't like a lot of what I see. I'd like to think that perhaps we're a part of getting Allentown back to what it used to be during its glory days. [snip] I'm looking forward to this! I think this will be very, very good. I know it's bad form in an interview to give hints on the outcome, but I think your record speaks for itself. I think we would do very well to hire you. I'm sure that if you just continue this type of performance, you'll make not only Aegis proud, but me personally proud.
