This is the same move Ernesto performed on Lupito (who was then found dead two
Episodes later, with a huge hole gouged into the side of his skull) and Pedro
(when Ernesto was questioning him about how he knew JD).
This seems to be Ernesto's version of the Kiss of Death. Pedro was saved
because as Ernesto was about to act, Pedro gave him a piece of surprisingly good news (from Ernesto's point
of view).
