Desi: Gee, Mr. Schuler, we can't just go to the police and say, "Aristartes the Opener ripped Kevin's throat out," now, can we?
Mr. Schuler: (after a  pause, clearly shaken) I have some things I need to do. Can we possibly talk about this later?
Desi: No, I don't think we can. Our friend might be dying.
Doug: Kevin might be dying.
Desi: The whole city might be dying because of what he's doing. Unless we know where he's doing it, we can't stop him.
Mr. Schuler: If what you're saying is true, I'll take care of it.
Desi: Like you've taken care of everything else so far?
Mr. Schuler: Do you have any idea what condition this city would be in if steps hadn't been taken to contain some of the more unpleasant elements?
Desi: Do you have any idea what condition Kevin would be in if you hadn't taken those steps?
Mr. Schuler: That was not supposed to happen. Something will be done to address that mistake.
Desi: In the meantime, you're going to let Aristartes open the Hellmouth.
Mr. Schuler: (confused) What are you talking about?
Desi: We know about your little scheme. You summoned him to give you more power. He did that by sacrificing people to open a Hellmouth.
Mr. Schuler: I don't know what you're talking about. That's not what Aristartes was summoned to do.
Miss Wells: What is his purpose here?
Mr. Schuler: I love this city. When I first came to Allentown -- it wasn't even called Allentown yet, its name was still Northampton at that point -- you should have seen it. I was 14 years old, I remember it vividly, and it was a mess. One week before, a train of 700 wagons had come through, carrying wounded and sick from the Battle of Brandywine down to Philadelphia. It was the third week of September. I remember it like it was yesterday. To help those sick and wounded, the farmers harvested their fields early. They tore down fences for firewood. The place was a mess!
But it was a mess because people cared. And because they did whatever they had to do to help people who needed help. I knew right then that this was where I wanted to live. It's not like that anymore. It hasn't been like that for the last 20 years. People live like animals these days. They have no respect for each other. They throw trash on the streets. Even an animal knows better than to soil where it sleeps! There's no sense of community anymore. Despite what you might think, that will destroy this city. Or it would have.
Aristartes was brought here to take care of the gang problem.
Desi: He took care of it, alright. He took over!
Mr. Schuler: Actually, that was part of the plan. Take over one gang, use it to destroy the others, and then destroy that gang. We haven't quite gotten that far. But I'm telling you, Allentown is a much better place than it would be. It was never my intention that any good people get hurt.
Desi: You sit there and you spin your webs like you're better than other people, and... and...
Mr. Schuler: Desi, face facts! You, I, most of the people in this room are better than other people. There's an element of society that just doesn't give a damn, and it's pulling everybody else down! Somebody had to do something.
