Adult Ukelele for Beginners

Have you always wanted to play an instrument? Join THE UNLIKELY STRUMMERS for 7 weeks of fun and learn the fundamentals to start your musical journey on the UKULELE. No prior musical experience necessary. You will learn basic chords, rhythms, and strums that will enable you to play songs in no time! Bring your own SOPRANO or ALTO/CONCERT ukulele and music stand. A electronic tuning device such as a Snark Tuner is also recommended. (Note: This program is geared towards Soprano or Alto/Concert Ukes only because the tuning for baritone and tenor ukes is different and therefore the chords will also be different.)

This class is recommended for ages 16+ and is offered for 7 weeks on the dates below. Also, please remember that The Unlikely Story Café is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee, glass of wine (21+), craft beer (21+) or soda along with a healthy snack either prior to or following class each week!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:
Lisa Cohen has always known that music moves the deepest parts of her soul. A lifelong "casual" vocalist with experience performing with a variety of local musicians, more recently including The Shed Inspectors and The Splitting Headaches, Lisa explored piano and guitar before realizing the Ukelele as the best tool to support her ongoing personal musical journey. She was one of the original members of the Zukes Ukelele Orchestra, performing with the Wellington Ukelele Orchestra at the Zeiterion Theater in New Bedford in 2015, participates with the Massapoag Uke Strummers in Sharon, the Featherstone Uke Jam on Martha's Vineyard, and many porch and backyard jam sessions across New England. Lisa believes the ukulele is the perfect instrument for those that may have previously believed themselves to be "non-musical". She currently co-teaches a beginner ukulele class with Cindy Miller for Sharon Community Education, and is very excited to share the joy of ukulele with new strummers at An Unlikely Story.

Cindy Miller has had a lifelong relationship with music. After many years of formal training on flute, guitar, and piano, the ukulele is her most recent instrumental adventure. She is a member of the Zukes Ukulele Rrchestra of the Zeiterion Theater in New Bedford, and has also played with The Mighty Uketones and the Massapoag Strummers. Cindy has performed at the Cape Cod Ukulele Festival, the Wamsutta Club's "Not Your Average Christmas," New Bedford's "AHA!" (Art, History, Architecture) Nights, the New Bedford Portuguese Festival, the welcoming ceremony for the crew of the Hawaiian voyaging canoe Holukea, Brockton's Fuller Craft Museum, and also as game-day entertainment for the Brockton Rox baseball team, as well as at coffeehouses and open mic nights in the area. She currently co-teaches a beginner ukulele class with Lisa Cohen for Sharon Community Education, and is excited to share the joy of ukulele music!
