Truth be told, things are looking pretty good in this little corner of Hell on Earth.

The Convoy found Brink about a year ago. Nobody in Brink even knew the Convoy existed. And even if they had known, they'd never have expected to see it. With only a slight breeze, you can pretty much spit into Colorado from Brink, and the word is that the Convoy doesn't go near Colorado for fear of the Combine.

So when the scout truck came rolling down the highway toward Brink, no one knew what to expect. When they discovered it was filled with food, tools, raw materials, and other goods -- to trade! -- they were in heaven.

Life in Brink has improved considerably after just two visits by the Convoy. Today, the Convoy's delivery trucks are due back for their third visit, so spirits are high.

But not all the omens are so favorable.

For one thing, the people of Brink are running out of things to offer in trade. For another, if the Combine catches wind of the Convoy's visits, the Convoy might spook and never return. Of all the settlements that the Convoy has found in Kansas, Brink is by far the westernmost. If the Convoy turns its back on Brink, it won't be coming anywhere near this place. The people of Brink will never have the chance to trade with the Convoy again.

And then there are the passers through. Every now and again, there are one or two people who spend a few days in Brink on their way to someplace else. But right now, there are almost as many visitors as townspeople! Some of them probably heard about the Convoy and are looking for the chance to trade. But what about the rest? And the mutants -- why are they here?

There's only one thing that keeps nagging at the residents of Brink:
