We're thrilled to be hosting National Book Award nominee and superstar graphic novelist, Gene Luen Yang! Gene will be joining us fresh from a visit to the White House, where the first episode of AMERICAN BORN CHINESE, the Disney+ series based on Gene's graphic novel of the same name, was screened in celebration of AA and NHPI Heritage Month. Gene will be in conversation with Jeff Kinney to introduce his newest graphic novel, THE BOOKS OF CLASH VOLUME 1: LEGENDARY LEGENDS OF LEGENDARIOUS ACHIEVERY. Based on Clash of Clans and Clash Royale, the first volume in this action-packed eight-volume series brings the characters from everyone's favorite mobile game sensation to life! It's a laugh-out-loud tale of friendship and fun that provides a deep dive into the lore of the Clash world. Gene and Jeff will talk all about the world of gaming and graphic novels, answer fans questions, and Gene will sign books! A limited number of official Clash swag will be given away at random to attendees, including a Clash of Clans fan kit, Clash Hog riding figures, and Clash Royale mini wrapping paper.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Gene Luen Yang writes, and sometimes draws, comic books and graphic novels. He was named a National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature by the Library of Congress in 2016, and advocates for the importance of reading, especially reading diversely. His graphic novel American Born Chinese, a National Book Award finalist and Printz Award winner, has been adapted into a streaming series. His two-volume graphic novel Boxers & Saints won the LA Times Book Prize and was a National Book Award Finalist. His nonfiction graphic novel, Dragon Hoops, received an Eisner award and a Printz honor. His other comics work includes Secret Coders (with Mike Holmes), The Shadow Hero (with Sonny Liew), and Superman Smashes the Klan and the Avatar: The Last Airbender series (both with Gurihiru). In 2016, he was named a MacArthur Foundation Fellow.
