Chris Van Allsburg

Who better to read The Polar Express than the author himself?  We are so excited to bring award-winning author and illustrator Chris Van Allsburg to An Unlikely Story for a one-of-a-kind holiday event!  Chris will read his classic picture book, then Diary of a Wimpy Kid author Jeff Kinney will join him on stage for a Q&A followed by a signing. This is a wonderful opportunity to purchase the perfect gift for the holidays: an autographed copy of the The Polar Express and a special holiday bell!

Tickets for this event are General Admission. The first 200 attendees to arrive the day of the event will be seated in the Second Story Event Space. The next 100 attendees will view the event via live broadcast on the Third Floor. All attendees will have the opportunity to meet Chris in person and have their book signed following the presentation.

A magical train ride on Christmas Eve takes a boy to the North Pole to receive a special gift from Santa.

For decades, The Polar Express has been a treasured holiday classic. This sturdy, oversized hardcover edition is perfect for sharing and reading aloud. Awarded the prestigious Caldecott Medal in 1986, The Polar Express has sold more than 7 million copies, become a favorite holiday movie, and been translated into stage productions that take place across the United States during the holiday season.

Chris Van Allsburg is the winner of two Caldecott Medals, for Jumanji and The Polar Express, as well as the recipient of a Caldecott Honor Book for The Garden of Abdul Gasazi. The author and illustrator of numerous picture books for children, he has also been awarded the Regina Medal for lifetime achievement in children's literature. In 1982, Jumanji was nominated for a National Book Award and in 1996, it was made into a popular feature film. Chris Van Allsburg is a former instructor at the Rhode Island School of Design.
