Curative Reading Summer Series

Treat what ails you with a good book and community!

Curative Reading is a series of weekly one-hour gatherings bringing inspiration and support through reading fiction and building community.  Anyone moving through uninvited change or challenge is welcome to set aside present life situations and dive into the imaginative world of fiction where all things can change and grow for the better.

Some of the many benefits of reading fiction include reduced levels of stress, improved memory, enhanced attention span and ability to focus, and better sleep.  The weekly format and supportive atmosphere enables participants to move through life’s challenges with greater ease, positivity and resiliency by harnessing the power of imagination.

The Curative Reading summer series will meet for eight weeks on Wednesday evenings starting on July 10th reading the novel Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger. Participants will read about 40 pages per week and answer written questions in advance of each weekly meeting and discuss the text and share insights and inspiration. The book is included in the price of the class and attendees will be contacted when they can pick up their book.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Kelly Brooks has been convening groups for over twenty-five years with a special interest in therapeutics, group dynamics, and community building.  She has a B.A. in psychology, and a background in hospitality and mind-body event planning. She has received formal training from Boston College, The University of Massachusetts, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, and The Benson Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Mass General Hospital.  In 2014 symptoms of debilitating anxiety and severe digestive upset led her to The Dean Center for Tick Born Illness at Spaulding Hospital where she received rehabilitation support for Lyme.  Being an ongoing member of Spaulding’s Community Book Group has become one of her best medicines.  As she continues to manage symptoms of chronic illness, bringing Curative Reading to communities to help individuals rise beyond illness with imagination and possibility is both her contribution and her cure.
