We're delighted to welcome Lamar Giles back to An Unlikely Story, virtually this time! Jeff Kinney will be in conversation with Lamar, discussing his middle-grade fantasy novel THE LAST MIRROR ON THE LEFT, the sequel to his 2019 hit THE LAST LAST-DAY-OF-SUMMER. You may remember our event last year when Lamar was part of Kwame Alexander's VERSIFY bus tour, signing THE LAST LAST-DAY-OF-SUMMER. It was an incredible event, and we can't wait to spend more time with Lamar! Following their discussion, Lamar will answer attendee questions.
“I write books primarily to entertain readers. I like to imagine them gasping in a thrilling moment, or cracking up at the funny parts. My books are the kind that anybody can enjoy. But, while anybody can enjoy them, they're not about generic avatars; my books are about Black kids. They may be in strange situations, or have talents you don't expect, but they are Black. They're the characters I was advised not to write. The characters I was told no one would read. The characters I always wanted to read. So the most interesting thing about me might be how stubborn I am because while I'm here to entertain I'm also here to prove wrong the people who said it couldn't--or worse, shouldn't--be done.“ - Lamar Giles
Lamar has kindly signed bookplates for everyone purchasing his new book, THE LAST MIRROR ON THE LEFT, while supplies last! When ordering your book please include that you would like a signed bookplate in the “order comments” section when checking out on our website.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
In this new Legendary Alston Boys adventure from Edgar-nominated author Lamar Giles, Otto and Sheed must embark on their most dangerous journey yet, bringing a fugitive to justice in a world that mirrors their own but has its own rules to play by.
Unlike the majority of Logan County's residents, Missus Nedraw of the Rorrim Mirror Emporium remembers the time freeze from The Last Last-Day-of-Summer, and how Otto and Sheed took her mirrors without permission in order to fix their mess. Usually that's an unforgivable offense, punishable by a million-year sentence. However, she's willing to overlook the cousins' misdeeds if they help her with a problem of her own. One of her worst prisoners has escaped, and only the Legendary Alston Boys of Logan County can help bring the fugitive to justice.
This funny and off-the-wall adventure is perfect for readers of Jonathan Auxier and Lemony Snicket.
