Partnering with the North Attleboro YMCA, An Unlikely Story invites you to join the "Y Eat Healthy" Discussion Group focused on healthy eating and living! The group gathers at the bookstore and the North Attleboro YMCA in alternating months. We explore books, cookbooks, food literature, cooking methods, videos, and lifestyle changes centered on real, whole foods, and a balanced lifestyle.
This Discussion Group is open to all -- omnivores to vegans -- who want to talk about food, health, cooking and balanced-living principles. We request that everyone remain curious and respectful of each other’s choices. Members of the group will share and discuss a variety of resources each month to keep the discussions dynamic and broad-based. Food tastings will be sprinkled in as well! An Unlikely Story offers a 10% discount on Discussion Group books in stock when bought during "Y Eat Healthy" meetings, although purchasing the books is not required for participation.
This year, we're changing the format of the gatherings to stimulate new ideas and more cooking/recipe sharing! We'll start each meeting with a voluntary "show-and-tell" where participants each take a few minutes to tell the group about a new recipe, ingredient, book, article, health-related app, cooking tool, lifestyle change, etc. that they've explored that month. After the show-and-tell, we'll engage in a discussion based on the show-and-tell as well as questions that participants have submitted at previous meetings or to Bonnie & Jocelyn prior to the meeting. Bonnie & Jocelyn will always suggest a cookbook or book to explore prior to the meeting in case participants want some inspiration.
For our February gathering, the suggested focus is new ingredients -- choose a vegetable, or spice, or flavor combination you haven't tried before and tell us about your experience! (Of course, any show-and-tell topic is welcome, so please don't feel restricted by this suggestion.) We can't wait to hear what you've tried and how you liked it!
